University recognition
Does a university accepting the Diploma mean I meet its entry requirements?
No. Recognition tells you that the programme is understood or accepted in some form; admission still depends on the university, the course you apply to and its current requirements. More than 4,500 universities in over 110 countries and territories receive student transcripts each year, but transcript reach is not an admission guarantee.

Recognition, admission and credit are different questions
| Signal | What you can use it for | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Transcript reach | More than 4,500 universities in over 110 countries and territories receive student transcripts each year. | It does not mean every one of those institutions has the same entry requirements or credit policy. |
| Recognition database | The public database lists more than 2,000 universities and covers over 90% of institutions where students send transcripts. | Absence from the database is not evidence that a university rejects the Diploma Programme. |
| United States credit data | The database includes credit or advanced-standing policies for about 800 US universities, covering more than 80% of US institutions receiving transcripts. | Credit for a subject or level is not the same decision as admission to the institution or programme. |
| Published recognition statement | A university may publish programme, subject, grade or credit requirements through the recognition database. | The organization explicitly says a recognition policy does not necessarily guarantee admission. |
Check a university in four steps
- 01Find the institution in the recognition database. Use that entry as a starting point, not the final admissions decision.
- 02Open the university's own admissions page. Verify the current requirements for the exact degree or programme you want, because institution-wide recognition can be broader than course-level entry rules.
- 03Separate admission from credit. Advanced standing or course credit is a different policy from being admitted. Check it separately if it matters to your plan.
- 04Check the date. Recognition entries and university requirements can change. Save the current page you relied on if the decision affects an application.
